Hekla Technologies (Hekla) has developed novel technology for recycling post-industrial Polycarbonate (PC) and PMMA that overcomes limitations of conventional recycling.

Contrary to current recycling technologies, Hekla’s technology preserves properties of the material, especially clarity and color, so recycled PC and PMMA have effectively the same properties as those of the original materials.

Recycled PC and PMMA can substitute for the original materials, at low cost.

Immediate high value-added applications for Hekla's technology are those that require superb mechanical and optical properties, such as:

  • PC prescription and sunglasses lenses

  • PC automotive roofs and lighting lenses

  • PMMA lighting and optical

  • PMMA electronics

Hekla's new technology closes the loop in the circular economy model.  It reduces waste, is energy and cost efficient, and improves sustainability.

The technology has been proven with a lab scale recycling plant and is ready for scale-up and commercialization.
